We want all young people, and others, to experience the power of music in broadening their minds and connecting them with their community and the world around them. Music is a crucial source of inspiration and light to many people. From our experience music methods bring people together and empowers individuals to express themselves.
Our vision
We want to develop and diversify the musical opportunities that are available to young people, especially in rural areas. Be it through workshops from musicians, alternative concerts, subsidized tuition or a library of musical instruments, we want young people to have more chances to play music and to experience the wondrous variety of genres, production and performance styles that exist in the world.
We believe that doing so will kickstart their imaginations, motivate them to get hands-on with music and broaden their minds to the possibilities available to them.
We also want our local musicians to have more quality work opportunities – as workshop facilitators, tutors and performers – on a diverse range of events and scenes. A vibrant musical ecosystem will yield more for everyone.
What we do
Under our association, Lojtra, we carry out Tune Green mini-festivals, where we showcase the music and musical methods of some of the most interesting Slovenian musicians and introduce their work to educational professionals. We also bring those musicians into schools, youth centers and community organisations to carry out workshops and bring music to those who don’t have other opportunities to experience it. Finally, we hold youth camps, where young people get in touch with themselves and others and have transformative experiences through our experiential learning programmes based around music methods.
Who we are
We are a small team of youth workers, musicians and activists who live and work in rural central Slovenia, out of our association, Lojtra. We believe in the potential of our local community to support young people in living rich, full and exciting lives, and we are working to create projects that do just that. In our lives, music has been the magic that brings us together with our peers, forging and strengthening the bonds that underlie our communities. We want to share that power with young people and enable them to go as far with music as they want to – be it to pop stardom, jazz virtuosity, or into glitchcore obscurity.
